The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has finalized new opioid policies to assist in combating the opioid epidemic and its impact on communities. The new policies will affect the Medicare prescription drug plans starting 1/1/19.
These policies involve the partnership with our provider network and the prescription drug plan. The focus is the prevention of new cases of opioid use disorder, the treatment of patients who are already dependent and the utilization of data from across the country to better target prevention and treatment activities.
The notice describes the safety alerts that the pharmacists will review at the time of dispensing also known as Point of Sale edits.
